Melamine resins for stoving enamels, coil coating and wood-based panels — from the global leader in amino crosslinkers.
Amino crosslinkers react during stoving with the functional groups of the base resin and build a dense network. That is where the hardness, chemical resistance and weathering resistance of stoving systems come from — properties a self-drying system does not reach.
The degree of methylation is the central lever: highly methylated grades (HMMM) need more acid catalysis and a hotter stoving window, partially alkylated ones react earlier and more self-directed. Pot life, oven curve and formaldehyde balance all follow from it. Where low-formaldehyde grades are required — for wood-based panels and laminates, for instance — that becomes a selection criterion of its own.
What matters when choosing
Degree of methylation: reactivity, catalyst demand and stoving temperature all depend on it
Available stoving window in temperature and time
Acid catalyst and the resulting pot life
Low-formaldehyde grades where emission limits apply
Compatibility with the base resin and its functional groups
Storage stability of the mixed system

Watch out for
HMMM (highly methylated)
Needs acid catalysis and higher stoving temperature
Polyesters and acrylics, coil & can
Long storage stability of the mixed system
Partially alkylated
More reactive, partly self-catalysing
Industrial stoving enamels
Shorter pot life, milder oven curve possible
Benzoguanamine grades
Flexibility and chemical resistance
