Additives for foundry coatings and refractory compounds — rheology, dispersing and foam control of mineral suspensions.
Foundry coatings are highly filled mineral suspensions applied to moulds and cores by dipping, flow coating or brushing: the refractory materials must stay in suspension, the film thickness must be reproducible when dipping, and entrapped air must leave no defects in the coating — every flaw ends up as a casting defect in the part. Refractory compounds and adhesives pose similar demands.
From BYK we carry layered-silicate and specialty-clay rheology additives (LAPONITE, CLAYTONE, OPTIGEL, BENTOLITE), DISPERBYK dispersing additives for refractory materials, plus defoamers for waterborne coatings.
Layered-silicate rheology keeps refractory materials in suspension — with shear-thinning application. — Rheology additives →
Dispersing additives distribute zircon, graphite and chamotte evenly in the suspension. — Wetting & dispersing additives →
Defoamers for waterborne foundry coatings — bubbles in the coating become casting defects. — Defoamers →
