Powder coatings only flow in the oven: in the few minutes between melting and crosslinking it is decided whether the surface turns smooth or shows orange peel, whether gases from the substrate can escape or leave pinholes. Additives are incorporated in the extruder or dry-blended — a processing world of its own, without solvents.
