Binders for intumescent coatings — systems that foam up in a fire and protect steel.
Intumescent coatings are highly filled waterborne systems: in a fire, the coating must foam up in a controlled way and form an insulating protective layer — and before that sit inconspicuously on the steel for years, with limited water uptake, good adhesion and clean application at high film thicknesses. The binder co-determines intumescence, early rain resistance and storage stability.
From Alberdingk Boley we carry suitable dispersions as the binder base of waterborne intumescent coatings; BYK additives for defoaming, dispersing and rheology of the highly filled formulation complement them from the coatings range.
Build the rheology as a combination — anti-settling plus sag resistance for thick layers. — Rheology additives →

Match wetting and dispersing additives to the intumescent package — foaming in a fire needs a homogeneous distribution. — Wetting & dispersing additives →
