Raw materials for fibre sizings — film formers and waxes that protect glass and carbon fibres and couple them to the matrix.
The sizing is the invisible layer on every reinforcement fibre: it protects the filament from abrasion during spinning, winding and weaving — and later co-determines how well the fibre bonds to the polymer matrix. It is formulated as a waterborne system of film former, coupling agent and slip components, applied to running filaments in fractions of a second.
For this we carry PU dispersions from Alberdingk Boley as film formers plus AQUACER wax emulsions from BYK as the slip and protection component of the sizing formulation.
Wax emulsions as the slip component protect the filament from abrasion. — Wax additives →
The film former must match the matrix — choose PU dispersions by target polymer. — Acrylic & PU dispersions →
Adjust the wetting of the sizing bath — the application must sit evenly within fractions of a second. — Surface additives →
