How we solve formulation problems together with our customers — three anonymised examples.
After a binder change, a furniture coater struggled with craters and pinholes in the clear coat. In conversation we narrowed the cause down to the interplay of defoamer and substrate wetting and put together two alternative additive combinations as free samples.
Result: the second combination ran cleanly in the lab straight away — two weeks later it was in series production.
At a paint manufacturer, a highly filled façade paint settled in the can — leading to complaints from the trade. We proposed a combined rheology of layered silicate and associative thickener and supported the incorporation with samples at two dosage levels.
Result: storage-stable over the required period — with no loss in levelling or sprayability.
An applicator was looking for protection for fair-faced concrete façades — water-repellent, but without film formation and without darkening the surface. Together with the manufacturer we chose a water repellent with high penetration depth and tested the application on trial areas.
Result: significantly reduced water absorption with unchanged appearance — now part of his standard range.
